An economizer is an upgrade that eliminates your need for air conditioning, when outdoor temperatures are ideal. This technology is only recommended for certain climate and humidity conditions. This tool provides your ductwork with an automated way of “opening a window”, allowing outside air to pass into the building whenever the conditions are favorable. For example, if the temperature inside is set to 75, and your air conditioner notices that the outside air has fallen to 68, it will pump this cooler air into the space instead of trying to cool the 75 degree air already within the building. When necessary, the incoming fresh air is still dehumidified by the AC coils, but often the outside air is both cool and dry enough that the fan alone can cool the space. This feature can save tons of energy during the spring and fall especially, when overnight lows are cool enough to flush out the heat every night, or bring it in when the heat is on.
